Máster Propio – Is it useful for requesting a professional internship residence in Spain?

Many of you ask us about the Residence Authorization for Professional Practices/Interships. This permit, which was introduced into our legal system a couple of years ago, is a good way for people with a certain degree, who are both outside of Spain and within our country, can obtain a residence and work permit.

Being a relatively "new" permit, we are receiving many questions from our clients about it. For this reason, and to clarify, one of the most common doubts, we have made you this article explaining if a private Master is valid to request this type of permit from Spain.

WHO CAN REQUEST A RESIDENCE FOR PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIP

This type of authorization is intended for all those who have obtained a higher education degree in the two years prior to the date of the authorization request or who are carrying out studies that lead to obtaining a higher education degree.

Obtaining the title or carrying out the studies can be in Spain or abroad.

With this authorization, the foreign citizen will be able to obtain a permit with a duration of from 6 months to two years, and it can be processed whether we have an internship agreement or if we have an internship work contract.

But what studies exactly should I have done? Can it be a Master's Degree? Does it have to be an official master's degree?

One of the most common doubts, is as we say, the one related to the studies that we must complete or have completed in order to access this residence permit for internships.

In this sense, the regulations establish that a higher education training or qualification will be sufficient. In this sense, it encompasses university education, higher artistic education, higher-level professional training, higher-level professional training in plastic arts and design, and higher-level sports education.

Currently in Spain the different Universities create their own training and it is the University itself that designs these own degrees. Therefore, we can find, for example, our own Master's degrees and official Master's degrees.

In this sense, the Master's degree itself is perfectly valid to subsequently request a Residence Authorization for Professional Internships, since it is in any case a higher education training, regardless of whether it is a training proper to a University specifically.
